Revolutionizing DC Pension Investments

Schroders is at the forefront of the changing investment landscape, gearing up to launch a wealth-focused Long-Term Asset Fund (LTAF) for defined contribution (DC) pension plans. This development is particularly significant for the DC market, known for its limited investment options, primarily focused on stocks and bonds. The introduction of LTAFs diversifies these options, incorporating private markets and addressing liquidity challenges.

LTAFs cater to long-term investors by providing access to a broader range of opportunities like private equity and infrastructure, aligning better with DC plan participants' goals. This diversification can potentially yield higher returns while mitigating risks, ultimately improving retirement savings outcomes. However, the success of this innovative approach hinges on effective education and communication efforts to ensure all stakeholders in the DC market can make informed decisions and maximize the benefits of LTAFs. Schroders' initiative is a significant step toward enhancing investment options and outcomes in the DC space, promising a more secure and diversified future for plan participants.

Schroders is hoping that it will get the green light from the FCA to launch a long-term asset fund (LTAF) aimed at the wealth market in the first quarter of next year. The asset manager was the first firm to launch a fund under the new UK alternatives product structure in March and it launched a second LTAF in May.
