Property fund aims to improve real world outcomes

In the face of challenges facing the UK housing market, AEW UK Investment Management has recently launched a new UK Impact Fund in collaboration with Home REIT. The aim of the fund is to invest in social and affordable housing to address this crisis, whilst also generating sustainable financial returns. This is an innovative fund, and it has come as a response to increasing demand from investors who seek both financial gains and the ability to have a positive impact on society.

Home REIT, a specialist real estate investment trust focused on homelessness and social housing, will work closely with AEW to identify suitable properties for the fund. The collaboration aims to make a meaningful impact on housing issues in the UK.

With a specific focus on acquiring and developing properties that support disadvantaged communities, including vulnerable individuals, the UK Impact Fund aims to create measurable positive social outcomes. It will target a diversified portfolio of properties, including transitional housing for the homeless and affordable rental properties.

The fund comes at a critical time when the UK faces significant housing challenges, including homelessness and a deficit of affordable housing. The collaboration between AEW UK and Home REIT underscores the importance of private sector involvement in addressing these issues and highlights the potential for impact investing to drive positive change in the UK’s housing landscape.

"The built environment has a huge influence on people's everyday lives and the launch of our first impact fund provides investors with an opportunity to invest in a way that creates both a tangible positive social and environmental impact, whilst also achieving their return objectives.” Nick Winsley, Head of AEW UK
