The shared concern regarding increasing populations in a world which cannot sustain such numbers is well-versed by now. However optimism is lacking, despite the opportunities this presents for positive change.
With a rapidly-growing global population, infrastructure investors have an opportunity to shape the world we live in, in 3 ways:
1) Construction of cities
2) Managing and operating cities
3) Making them liveable and sustainable
Cities may occupy just 2 per cent of the earth's land surface, but they are home to more than half of the world's population and generate 80 per cent of all economic output. And their dominance is growing: by 2045, an extra 2 billion people will live in urban areas. The expansion of urban centres is sure to put pressure on infrastructure, resources and the environment.
